Madam C.J. Walker
This poster and pamphlet was created for my Graphic Design I class. The goal of this project was to create an original poster design of a Black activist inspired by the sale of a Black designer. In addition to the poster, I created a correlating pamphlet with details about both the activist and the designer.
Once completed, I was lucky enough to have my work selected to be in an art show at the Zeitgeist Art Cafe in Duluth, MN in the Spring of 2017. This art show was a collection of over 75 similar pieces with different activists and designers. Each piece was silently auctioned off, and 50 percent or more of the proceeds from the show were donated to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). My piece specifically sold for $50 and 50 percent of the proceeds were donated.
My assigned activist was Madam C.J. Walker (born Sarah Breedlove). She was an entrepreneur that sold hair products, and was one of the first American Woman to become a self-made millionaire.
