Dignified Not Dirty
A socially conscious design project for a graphic design course at UMD where we researched and interviewed real individuals about a problem and came up with a solution. I decided to focus on homeless woman in Duluth, MN and a struggle they face that isn't very transparent. Every month, whether we want it or not, woman recieve their "monthly gift" aka monthly period. When that time of the month comes around, homeless woman oftentimes might have to decide between being clean or being fed. The choice of purchasing menstrual products or their next meal. Put yourself in their shoes. You can't magically stop your period if you can't afford these products. Could you imagine trying to make that choice? Through my research, I found that woman spend an average of about $80 on tampons, pads, and pain relievers. I came up with the idea of creating a "Buy One Give One" tampon company that delivers "a monthly gift (of menstrual products) for your monthy gift" right to your doorstep each month. For every box of tampons you purchase, one will be given to someone in need.
